ACS Military Band

History of the band
The A.C.S. Military Band was formed in 1973 by Mr. Moses Tay, the principal than, when A.C.S. was seventy years old. The total cost of RM 11,000 was paid by Dato Tan Hooi Bing, an old pupil of the school. The band then played and marched to its first tunes as forty-five piece band with Ding Meng Leung as its first drum major.
From its first humble notes played at the beginning as a forty-eight piece band and sixty-four in 1982 and then eighty-one in 1987, the name of our alma mater has indeed rung from the shore of Lumut and Pangkor right to the streets of Kuala Lumpur in 1982 and 1982. In 1982, the band was part of the Malaysia Band (two thousand band members in all) that marched into the Guinness Book of Records at the twenty-fifth merdeka parade in Kuala Lumpur.
In 1983, the band, sixty-four strong then, performed the first Musical Extravaganza which inspired the eightieth-year celebration crowd to proclaim “…and we walked away feeling ten feet taller watching the band perform.”
In 1988, the band took part in the City Day Parade in Ipoh with eighty-one members and in 1989, we led the international contingents at the SEA Games Opening (Seasports).
For the years 1990-2002, the band marched at the Hari Kebangsaan parades in Ipoh thus etching the name of the A.C.S. Military Band in the hearts and minds of the multitude in Perak.
In the 1991 Hari Kebangsaan parade, the band was given the honour to lead 150 contingents.
However, it was on the 31st of August, 1994 that the A.C.S. Military Band did the ‘impossible’, we became Perak Champion beating 37 bands. It was a proud moment indeed for A.C.S. Sitiawan! The following year, 1995, we were given the honour of being the Band-in-Attendance for Perak State playing majestically to the Royalty and top dignitaries of Perak. In 1996, we were placed third in Perak and this year 1998, we were given the honour of being the “Anchor Band”. In the 2000 Hari Kebangsaan Parade, we were placed third again. However, it was finally in 2001 and 2002 that we were confirmed to be the top three bands in Perak when we were placed third for both years, in the Perak State-level Band Competition.
