About Us
The Boys’ Brigade is a non-profit Christian uniformed body dedicated to spreading God’s Word amongst members. We seek to form people who are loyal, trustworthy, confident and are able to face the future world without fear and with preparation. Our body is something like a halfway house for teenagers, who learn much from us before going out into the world. By the time they would have left us, they would have been people strong in their faiths and ready to face any challenge instead of shying away.
Our History
The Boys’ Brigade was founded by a Sir William Alexander Smith on the 4th of October 1883. It was then the first uniformed youth organization in the world.
William Smith, then a Sunday School teacher, devised a unique system of providing the unruly boys in his class an organization as part of the church based on religion and discipline. Initially, 59 boys joined, many out of curiosity but 35 of them stayed. Simple forms of drill, gymnastics and games were introduced and these proved very popular.
By the late 1880’s, The Boys’ Brigade grew rapidly in the United Kingdom and by the early 1890’s, it grew to be a worldwide organization. Following the impact of the Boys’ Brigade, other uniformed bodies were started:

Girl Guides
are a few among the many mushrooming uniformed organizations.
The Boys’ Brigade was brought to Asia by a Rev Guthrie Gamble in 1915. In 1946, it was introduced to Malaya.
In 1994, the Girls’ Wing was incorporated into the organization. Before that, the body consisted only of boys.
In 1996, The Boys’ Brigade in Malaysia celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Needless to say, it was a grand celebration that lasted the whole year long.
